Chilean Business Round Table: Fruits and Vegetables – FRUITTRADE 2008
The Chilean Fruit Grower Federation (FEDEFRUTA), in association with ProChile, is organizing the “VI Chilean Business Round Table: Fruits and Vegetables – FRUITTRADE 2008”, which will take place on September 29-30 at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago, Chile.
The Embassy of Chile invites you to experience direct purchase from the producers of the most extensive supply of fruit and vegetables in the southern hemisphere. This event will also provide firsthand information about new coming products and technology, and will present a good opportunity to establish valuable contacts.
Chile has more than 30 years of experience in the production of fruit and vegetables, offering over 70 different products to more than 70 markets on five continents.
In the horticultural area, Chile is the main exporter in the Southern Cone. We have an extensive supply of fruits and vegetables, thanks to our special phytosanitary conditions that allow the development of the industry with less use of chemicals possible, while counting on natural barriers that impede the entrance of pest and diseases present in other latitudes.
Chile has achieved a strong insertion in the globalized world, signing free trade agreements with the United States, the European Union, China, Japan, Korea, Canada, Mexico, Mercosur, P4 (New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei), EFTA and other nations in Central and South America.
There are plenty of reasons to participate in Fruittrade 2008. We hope to see you the 29th and 30th of September at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago, the capital of Chile.
Please do not hesitate to contact Carlos Salas (Tel.: 202-530 4149, csalas@embassyofchile.org) at the Economic Department of the Chilean Embassy for any question or specific information that you might request.

Chile posts record fiscal surplus in 2007
Chile's policy of socking away windfall copper profits pushed 2007's fiscal surplus to another historic high, leaving it in a solid position to weather global economic volatility.
The fiscal surplus was US$14.453 billion last year, worth a record 8.7 percent of gross domestic product.
Chile's fiscal surplus has been bolstered by global copper prices that have held at near record levels since 2006. Windfall profits from sales of copper, have been strictly managed by the Chilean government under policies focused on saving for leaner times. It reflects the strict application of the structural surplus rule.
In 2006 Chile's fiscal surplus hit 7.7 percent of GDP -the heftiest percentage in Latin America..
Chile is the world's leading exporter of copper, which accounts for over half its exports and is enjoying booming prices on the back of ravenous demand from China.
Economists said the strong surplus was the result of efficient management of the government budget and would strengthen Chile's stability and risk standing.
